The FBI has asked Facebook to not reveal to it’s users who was behind the recent hack that exposed highly sensitive personal information of 14 Million users, according to a Facebook security update on Friday.
The hack of Facebook, originally was reported to have affected 50 million users, now it has been confirmed that it only affected 30 million users. The hack appears to be the worst in the history of Facebook. Facebook has been around now for 14 years, as hard as that seems to believe.
The hackers took advantage of an intersection of three different and distinct bugs in the Facebook’s website to gain access tokens to user accounts. This is according to Guy Rosen, Vice President of Product Management of Facebook.
“We’re cooperating with the FBI, which is actively investigating and asked us not to discuss who may be behind this attack” Rosen wrote in a Facebook post.
An Access token is simply a digital key, that keeps people logged into Facebook so they don’t have to re-enter their password every time they use an app. According to Facebook 30 Million had data accessed, 14 Million had detailed information pulled. 15 Million only had their name, phone number, and or email compromised. 1 Million lucky users didn’t have anything done according to Facebook.
