White House Press Secretary Leaving Position to Become First Lady’s Chief of Staff & Spokesperson

White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham is leaving that role to become First Lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff and spokeswoman, the first lady announced Tuesday.

Grisham’s is leaving her West Wing job less than a year after replacing Sarah Sanders in June 2019.  Grisham did not hold a single press briefing at the White House during her 10 month tenure as press secretary.

But, she often appeared on Fox News from the network’s bureau in Washington, D.C., instead of  from the north lawn of the White House where many other administration officials go for television appearances.

Grisham said she continues “to be honored to serve both the president and the first lady in the administration.”  “My replacements will be announced in the coming days and I will stay in the West Wing to help with a smooth transition for as long as needed,” Grisham said in an emailed press conference.
