WATCH: Ocasio-Cortez Compares Election Win To Civil Rights Accomplishments, Moon Landing, US Space Exploration

Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist, said Friday that her election victory was equivalent to America landing on the moon.

Ocasio-Cortez made the comments at a press conference for the radical left Sunshine Movement in Washington, D.C.

“This is not just about a clean new deal,” said Ocasio-Cortez. “This is about a new deal for the United States of America.”

“Because in every moment when our country has reached the depths of darkness, in every moment when we were at the brink, at the cusp of an abyss and we did not know if we would be capable of saving ourselves, we have,” she continued. “We’ve done it. We’ve dug deep and we’ve done what we thought was impossible.”

“We went to the moon. We electrified the nation,” she continued. “We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We digged deep and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That’s what we did when so many of us won an election this year.”

The majority of Democrats voted against giving blacks and women the right to vote, but that’s a subject for another article.

WATCH:

Ocasio-Cortez has repeatedly insisted that landing on the moon was somehow a partisan achievement for the Democrats, despite the fact that NASA – an apolitical government organization – was created by a Republican president and the United States landed on the moon under a Republican president.
