There is a reason why top Democrats are hammering President Donald Trump over his warnings about widespread mail-in balloting being a disaster in November: They know he’s right and they’re going to try to use the chaos to claim he stole the election (again) when in reality, they’re going to try and do that.
On Thursday, Trump made heads explode and eyes pop when he tweeted a new warning about mail-in voting and seemed to suggest that the Nov. 3 election should be postponed.
“With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history. It will be a great embarrassment to the USA. Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???” he wrote.
Naturally, he got a lot of pushback and ‘see, I told you!’ from the unhinged Left and media talking heads.
And yet, the president is, as usual, light years ahead of everyone else on an issue.
For months during election primaries earlier this year as more localities switched to mail-in ballots as a way to ‘keep voters safe’ during the coronavirus pandemic, reports of problems and fraud flourished.
In several cases, voters’ ballots never made it to election officials because they were never delivered by the Postal Service.
Now, USPS employees and officials are sounding the klaxon warning bell loud and clear that the Post Office cannot handle a major influx of mailed ballots because the agency doesn’t have the personnel or resources to handle that much additional traffic.
Postal workers are pointing to funding cuts and changes in rules that are causing delays across the country in mail delivery — including express mail. Their warnings are part of a growing body of evidence that any attempt to rely on the U.S. Postal Service to accurately and competently process mail-in ballots in a timely manner will end in catastrophe.
The Washington Post interviewed scores of USPS officials and workers who confirmed that the agency’s mail-delivery infrastructure is already overwhelmed – and things are getting worse.
Citing the paper, CNN notes:
Postal workers and union leaders are worried that new, recently implemented procedures — which have led to delays across the country in mail delivery — could impact mail-in voting for the November election, according to a Washington Post report.
Citing multiple postal workers and union leaders, the Post reported that parts of the country are experiencing at least a two-day delay in receiving mail, including for express mail, as a result of the US Postal Service’s new policies.
The current backlog is worsening to the point where workers fear they won’t be able to locate all voters’ ballots in time for them to be processed, the newspaper reported.
There is no way that Democrats are not aware of this. During what was nothing more than a political speech at the late Rep. John Lewis’ funeral Thursday, former President Barack Obama hit on Postal Service problems.
