Amazon has been a monster with no competition now for sometime, that now just changed dramatically in one announcement.
Amazon as many of you know charges $99 a year for a prime membership, and with that you get free 2-day shipping on select orders. They also have Prime Pantry, which also costs a monthly fee.
Walmart has now destroyed that market for Amazon in one announcement.
Walmart is launching a free, next-day shipping on orders costing at least $35, the company stated Tuesday.
The announcement by Walmart comes just three weeks after Amazon said it would cut its Prime program’s normal shipping speed to one day.
Walmart eCommerce CEO Marc Lore said “We had planned to make this announcement on this day many months ago.”
Lore also said that the faster shipping times will allow Walmart to save money because they’ll be shipping from a single fulfillment center, and that will further drive down costs by investing in more automation.
Does Amazon finally have real competition online?
