US Air Strike Takes Out Shibl al-Zaydi, leader in the Iranian backed PMU

Another one bites the dust, as US targets another high profile Iranian military target.

About 24 hours after assassinating top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, the US military targeted camps belonging to the Iran-backed Popular Mobilisation Units (PMU) late Friday, killing a top commander of the militia group.

The strikes killed six fighters at a base in Taj north of Baghdad, the Reuters news agency reported, citing an Iraqi military source.

Several media outlets, including NBC news, have reported that among those targeted was a top commander of the PMU.

Today’s US airstrike in Taji, Iraq targeted Shibl al-Zaydi (in red). The leader of the Iranian PMU militia. Yesterday’s airstrike targeted al-Quds Leader Qassam Soleimaini (centre) and Almuhandis (right).
