Ratings TANK For Major Sports League Teams As Fans Tune Out Over Social Justice Protests

The early signs are that professional sports leagues that have wholly embraced the divisive Black Lives Matter movement could be alienating millions of loyal fans.

When the NBA and MLB returned to play after seasons interrupted by the coronavirus panic the ratings were far from what could be expected from a sports-starved nation which in ordinary times, would be desperate for escapism.

Instead of a triumphant and unified return to bolster the morale of a nation facing an unprecedented health and economic crisis, the leagues instead chose to go all-in on the Marxist-inspired, America-hating BLM with in-your-face protests against the very fans who make it possible for them successful.

With Major League Baseball promoting the BLM message with pre-game worship of the movement and the NBA players wearing jerseys customized with social justice messages instead of player names, the early ratings returns are an omen that fans are fed up.

Via Breitbart, “Ratings Crash for NBA, MLB After Protest-Filled Debuts”:

As the NBA and MLB return from their coronavirus-imposed hiatus, it appears TV viewers are not interested in what the increasingly woke leagues have to offer.

With both baseball and basketball draped in all sorts of Black Lives Matter and social justice symbolism for their opening games, a substantially smaller number of fans tuned-in to the rest of the week’s games.

According to Outkick.com, neither league did well.

As for the opening games, Outkick reported that the return of the NBA on TNT saw the following numbers:

Lakers-Clippers: 3.4 million
Pelicans-Jazz: 2.1 million

ESPN’s MLB return numbers were also underwhelming:

Yankees-Nationals: 4.0 million
Dodgers-Giants: 2.8 million

Outkick’s Ryan Glasspiegel added more ratings numbers on Twitter.

“To be fair since I compared MLB vs NBA return night 1, here is night 2,” (July 24) he wrote, adding:

MLB (last Friday, ESPN)
Mets-Braves (4p) – 922K
Brewers-Cubs(7p) – 1.0M
Angels-As (10p) – 797K

NBA (last night ESPN) (July 31)
Celtics-Bucks (6:30p) – 1.3M
Mavs-Rockets (9p)- 1.7M

While the early returns on the China-slurping LeBron James basketball league are mixed and the real playoffs have not even started yet, baseball has suffered badly since trotting out Dr. Fauci to toss the ceremonial first pitch at the season opener.

Via The Washington Examiner, “MLB ratings ‘fell off’ after opening day amid support for Black Lives Matter movement”:

Major League Baseball viewership ratings fell off after opening day as the league embarked on a social justice mission in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

ESPN reported that the opening weekend game between the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals drew 4 million viewers, making it the most-watched regular-season game since 2011. Viewership dipped back down, however, following its opener.

“MLB really fell off after opening day. In general, both leagues aren’t getting the audience one might expect from a nation that’s been deprived of entertainment for months,” Ethan Strauss, a reporter for the Athletic, wrote in response to a tweet showing that ESPN reported 922,000 viewers for the Mets-Braves game, 1 million for the Brewers-Cubs game, and 797,000 viewers for the Angels-Athletics game on the league’s second night.

Great news! I can only hope the woke SOB’s revenue drops so much that the players are forced to take massive pay cuts.
