‘Empire’ actor and the mastermind behind the latest hate crime hoax, Jussie Smollett, turned himself into Chicago police Thursday morning around 5 a.m., accompanied by a female attorney. Smollett is charged with felony disorderly conduct and filing a false police report last month in Streeterville.
Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi announced on Twitter Chicago police would be conducting a news conference Thursday morning at 9 a.m. CST.
“Press Briefing: Jussie Smollet is under arrest and in custody of detectives. At 9am at #ChicagoPolice Headquarters, Supt Eddie Johnson, Commander of Area Central Detectives Edward Wodnicki will brief reporters on the investigation prior to the defendants appearance in court.”
Charlie De Mar with CBS 2 Chicago reported via Twitter that the actor was fingerprinted and photographed Thursday morning before being transferred to bond court at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse.
Smollett faces up to 1.5 years in prison on the Class 4 Felony of disorderly conduct according to CBS 2 Legal Analyst Irv Miller.
