Just in on the news deck, President Trump has fired Secret Service Director Randolph Alles, according to NBC News. President Trump has instructed Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney to fire him.
The firing of the head of Secret Service comes just a day after the announcement that DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen had resigned to the President.
A week ago the Secret Service arrested a Chinese spy Yujing Zhang at Mar-a-Lago resport in Palm Beach, Florida where the President was, along with his family. The spy slipped past at least five Secret Service agents and making it all the way to the main reception area of the compound.
Trump had praised the Secret Service last Wednesday in the wake of the alleged incident. Asked about his confidence in the luxury club’s security, Trump said, “I could not be happier with Secret Service. Secret Service has done a fantastic job from day one. Very happy with them.”
NBC’s Pete Williams reported Monday that, according to an administration official, Alles’ firing was “not based on any single precipitating event.” The decision was made 10 to 14 days ago, the official told NBC — before the alleged trespass at Mar-a-Lago.
I can’t speak for the President, but I think if someone had slipped past 5 agents, and my family was nearby, I’d be firing someone too.
