With his wife, Rosalynn at his side, former President Carter is recovering from a surgery this morning to relieve pressure on his brain caused by a subdural hematoma. He is in Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
This information was obtained from a statement by the Carter Center, and they said there were no complications from the surgery. The hematoma was caused by a series of recent falls by Mr. Carter. He will remain there as long as advisable for observation.
Mr. Carter turned 95 in October and has continued to be very active and very hard to slow down. This spring, Mr. Carter surpassed George H.W. Bush as the longest lived President in history. The Carter’s recently became the longest married presidential couple with more than 73 years of marriage, surpassing George and Barbara Bush.
