The ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee on Sunday promised that Republicans are set to make additional criminal referrals to the Justice Department regarding former members of special counsel Robert Mueller’s team.
In an interview with Fox News’ Greg Jarrett, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said the referrals would be made “in coming weeks” did not identify anyone by name, though he did blast former ranking officials like Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller.
“We’ve also expanded our investigation into the Mueller team and everything that happened with Mueller and the people at DOJ and FBI that were above Mueller,” Nunes said, The Epoch Times reported.
Nunes added that people should expect additional actions as more information becomes available about the circumstances surrounding the launch of the ‘Russiagate’ hoax investigation claiming the 2016 Trump campaign ‘colluded’ with Moscow to influence the election.
This is where our investigation currently is, we’re looking into everything that happened with Mueller,” Nunes told Jarrett. “We already know what happened with [retired Army Lt. Gen. Michael] Flynn. There was clearly corruption at the highest level. He should have never been prosecuted” because there was “exculpatory evidence” that exonerated him but was never presented in court during.
“And so, we will be making criminal referrals in the coming weeks against the Mueller team. We’re just now putting that together and, of course, as always, waiting on more documents that we really need to come out,” the GOP congressman added.
This started as a dirty campaign operation run by the Clinton campaign,” Nunes said. “At some point they got dirty operatives involved, including the dirty cops,” he said.
“Now, remember, in the middle of 2016, the dirty cops that are involved, it’s almost impossible to believe it didn’t reach the highest levels of the Department of Justice, when they opened so-called Crossfire Hurricane,” he said.
Nunes also noted that he and fellow Republicans, when they controlled the Intelligence Committee, tried getting to the bottom of the Russian collusion hoax but were blocked for nearly two years by high-ranking officials of DOJ and the FBI.
“Somebody has to answer to that,” Nunes said. “We were conducting an investigation. We wanted to know, what is it that Mueller’s looking at. And so, why didn’t we get that information? We know why. Because they would have gotten blown out of the water.”
“Because it was at that point we discovered that the Clinton campaign had paid for this dirt, that Rod Rosenstein, the FBI, all the dirty cops, they were all using this dirt to investigate the Trump campaign,” Nunes noted.
