One of the stronger earthquakes on record in the Caribbean, a 7.7 magnitude, 70 miles northwest of Montego Bay, Jamaica this afternoon.  

Moderate shaking was felt and reported in Jamaica, and minor shaking was reported as far north as Florida.  Shaking was also reported in the Cayman Islands, Cuba and Mexico.

Several aftershocks, including a 6.1 tremor about 35 miles southeast of the Cayman Islands around 5: p.m. eastern time. 
The originating earthquake appeared to be one of the biggest on record in the Caribbean, and the largest since 1946.

Initial reports of damage from the region have been spotty.  Smaller aftershocks are likely in the region in the coming weeks.
