In a gripping hearing held by the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, the spotlight shone on the security failures surrounding January 6, 2021. Chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk, this subcommittee delved into the events of that fateful day, featuring critical testimony from former U.S. Capitol Police Chief Steven A. Sund.

Chief Sund, who has been vocal about Nancy Pelosi’s shortcomings in securing the U.S. Capitol on January 6, took center stage. It’s been widely reported that President Trump had requested the National Guard’s presence three days before January 6, only for Pelosi to decline his request. Furthermore, Pelosi had long withheld information regarding her role in the security breakdown during the January 6 riot from congressional investigators.

During the hearing, Chief Steven Sund not only confirmed Pelosi’s culpability but also exposed her use of him as a scapegoat, forcing him to step down as Police Chief. It’s becoming increasingly clear that Pelosi was attempting to deflect responsibility for the attack.

One day after January 6, Pelosi placed the blame squarely on Chief Sund for the security failures. She even asserted that she hadn’t spoken with him at all during the day’s events. However, Chief Sund’s testimony directly contradicts Pelosi’s narrative.

Rep. Bryan Steil probed Chief Sund during the hearing:

Rep. Steil: Chief Sund, in your transcribed interview, you mentioned that you met with the House Sergeant at Arms regarding the National Guard prior to January 6. Is that correct?

Chief Sund: Yes, sir.

Rep. Steil: And who is the House Sergeant Arms leading up to and on January 6?

Chief Sund: That would be Paul Irving.

Rep. Steil: And the House Sergeant Arms is appointed. By who?

Chief Sund: He was appointed at that time by Speaker Pelosi.

Chief Sund’s revelations were damning. He detailed his conversations with Pelosi on January 6, countering her claim that she had not spoken to him that day. He explained how he briefed her three times on the situation, including a call during which Pelosi questioned the information he provided to Vice President Pence.

This raises a crucial question: Why would Pelosi lie about her interactions with Chief Sund if she had no concerns about her actions on that day? This matter should be thoroughly investigated, and Pelosi should be called to testify under oath. It’s increasingly apparent why the January 6 Committee ignored her—a panel seemingly more interested in a predetermined narrative than uncovering the truth.
