Deion Sanders, the former NFL and MLB legend, has rapidly risen to become one of the most prominent football coaches in America today. With an unblemished 3-0 record this season as the head football coach of the University of Colorado, “Coach Prime,” as he’s affectionately known, is turning heads after his impressive stint as the head coach at Jackson State University, where he amassed a remarkable 27-6 record.

Sanders has made waves in the college football world, employing unconventional strategies that have left opposing coaches scratching their heads. In a recent game, he took a surprising move by inviting rapper Lil Wayne to perform a song as the Colorado Buffalos made their entrance onto the field. But what’s even more intriguing is the backstory.

Few may realize that it was Deion Sanders who penned a letter to then-President Trump on behalf of Lil Wayne, seeking a presidential pardon for the rapper. In the letter, Sanders extolled Lil Wayne’s virtues, describing him as a “provider for his family, a friend to many, a man of faith, a natural giver to the less fortunate, a waymaker, [and] a game changer,” as per WLBT 3.

The White House indeed received this letter from Jackson State University’s head football coach, where Sanders lent his support for Trump’s pardon of Lil Wayne. The official White House statement reads in full:

“Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. – President Trump granted a full pardon to Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., also known as ‘Lil Wayne.’ Mr. Carter pled guilty to possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, owing to a conviction over 10 years ago. Brett Berish of Sovereign Brands, who supports a pardon for Mr. Carter, describes him as ‘trustworthy, kind-hearted and generous.’ Mr. Carter has exhibited this generosity through a commitment to a variety of charities, including donations to research hospitals and a host of food banks. Deion Sanders, who also wrote in support of this pardon, calls Mr. Wayne ‘a provider for his family, a friend to many, a man of faith, a natural giver to the less fortunate, a waymaker, [and] a game-changer.'”

Notably, Lil Wayne had previously endorsed President Trump during his time in office, further adding intrigue to the tale of Deion Sanders and his impactful coaching career.
