Minnesota Democrats Make Moves to Remove Ilhan Omar From Congress

According to multiple reports, Minnesota Democrats are working to find a way to remove Ilhan Omar from the U.S. Congress.

As reported by The Daily Caller earlier today, The Minnesota Democrats are angry and offended by her string of comments against Jews and Israel. They are reportedly considering squelching her next nomination and running a different candidate in her place.

“There’s definitely some buzz going around about it, but it’s more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they’re going to run against her or contemplate it,” Democratic state Sen. Ron Latz, whose district overlaps Omar’s federal constituency, told The Hill. “There’s definitely talk about people wanting someone to run against her.”

“Our community is exasperated by Rep. Omar’s unfulfilled promisesto listen and learn from Jewish constituents while seemingly simultaneously finding another opportunity to make an anti-Semitic remark and insult our community,” Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, said in a statement.

Hunegs told The Hill that he met with Omar last month to discuss why her comments were offensive to the Jewish community. But Hunegs said Omar didn’t care.

“Unfortunately, having the opportunity to speak with her about that point didn’t dissuade her making that statement,” he said. “We were appalled.”

Latz, who supported Omar’s rival in the 2018 Democratic primary, said the freshman Democrat should be worried.

“I’d be pretty uncomfortable supporting Rep. Omar right now, given what I’ve learned about her since the election and given her apparent inability to stop insulting Jews,” he said.
