The two brothers that were held by police and later released in the Jussie Smollett “attack” in Chicago have been found to have purchased the rope (noose) that was found around Smollett’s neck when police interviewed him the night of the alleged attack.
Fox 32 reported Rafer Weigel tweeted on Saturday afternoon: “Latest on #JussieSmollett: Several #CPD sources confirmed detectives were able to show the 2 Nigerian brothers questioned by police had purchased the rope found around Smollett’s neck at an Ace hardware. The brothers agreed to cooperate with police who are investigating…(1/2)”
cont.. “whether Smollett made up the story after police threatened to charge them with battery. The brothers attorney said both brothers knew Smollett. There are unconfirmed reports that Smollett paid the two brothers to perform the alleged scheme. (2/2).”
cont…”.@Chicago_Police say even after the Nigerian brothers release and despite “new evidence” from their interrogation #JussieSmollett is still being called a “victim” in this case. #Chicago#CPD”
“Yes, they are confirmed to be the men on scene by surveillance video,” Chicago Police said about the brothers in a statement to ABC7 Chicago. “The reason why they were there is now central to the investigation and we can’t get into that at this time.”
This new information in the Smollett case comes after learning that the Empire star hired defense attorney Michael Monico, who has also represented Michael Cohen.
Other than personal gain, what did Smollett get out of doing this??
Whether or not it comes out that the two brothers, Ola and Abel Osundairo were paid to create this fake hate crime, is still yet to be seen. We will continue to follow the story and bring you updates as the story develops.
***UPDATE*** Late Saturday evening, CBS Chicago reporter Charlie De Mar tweeted the following:
“NEW: Sources say at least one of the brothers purchased the rope used in Jussie Smollett incident at Crafty Beaver hardware store the weekend of Jan 25th. Plain red hats worn by brothers were purchased from an Uptown beauty supply store. @cbschicagohttps://cbsloc.al/2SJo6mP “
