A former associate of Kanye West reportedly forged the recording artist’s signature to get a $900,000 payment out of designer Philipp Plein. Plein was under the impression that Kanye would be performing at his New York Fashion Week show.
It looks as though Kanye was put into the middle of this scam without his knowledge, and it cost designer Philipp Plein almost $1 Million dollars.
Page Six has learned that an associate and former friend of West’s contacted Plein, who has a huge New York Fashion Week event planned for Monday, pretending to be the rapper’s rep and negotiating for him to “perform” at the show for roughly $1 million. A rep for Plein confirmed the company fell for the scam and made a deal with the faux rep.
On the contract, obtained by Page Six, the alleged conman forged West’s name and then had Plein wire $900,000 to an account in advance, which he emptied immediately, according to TMZ. West is not performing at Plein’s show.
