Special Counsel Robert Mueller recommended in a court filing Tuesday evening that Michael Flynn, President Trump’s former National Security Adviser receive a “lenient sentence,” that does not include time in prison due to his “substantial assistance to the government.”

After pleading guilty in December, 2017, to making false statements or lying to federal agents, Flynn provided helpful information during 19 lengthy interviews with the special counsel’s office, Mueller said, adding that some of the benefit may not be fully realized “because investigations are ongoing.”
