TUPELO, Miss. — President Donald Trump stumped in Mississippi on Monday for Republican Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith, who wants voters in the state to focus on the President’s steadfast support for her, rather than controversial comments she’s made ahead of Tuesday’s election, which is expected to be a much closer race than predicted.
9:15 P.M.: Vice President Mike Pence takes the stage and says “Mississippi and America needs Cindy Hyde Smith back in the United States Senate.”
9:17 P.M.: VP Pence says “Under President Donald Trump, it’s been two years of promises made and promises kept.”
9:17 P.M.: Pence says “I think there’s only one way you can describe the last two years,” adding, “It’s been two years of action.”
9:18 P.M.: Vice President Pence says “We’ve already started to build that wall,” adding, “Oh, we’re buildin’ it.”
9:21 P.M.: Mike Pence says “Mike Espy is too liberal for Mississippi.”
9:22 P.M.: Pence says ““Mississippi and America needs Cindy Hyde-Smith back in the United States Senate.”
9:25 P.M.: Pence concluded with the following: “With Gov. Phil Bryant in the state house, with Donald Trump in the White House, and with God’s help, we will make Mississippi safer and more prosperous than ever before.”
9:27 P.M.: President Donald Trump takes the stage, and jokingly says “Look, snow, I didn’t know what was going on, this is, I said, are you sure this is indoor, that beautiful snow looks so real, that’s the end of my suit, that’s the end of my hair.”
9:29 P.M.: The president says “We are respected like at no time before,” adding that foreign leaders walk into the Oval Office and tell him, “Mr. President, it’s incredible what’s happened with your country in such a short time.”
9:30 P.M.: Trump touts the record-low African American unemployment rate, reminding supporters that he said to a crowd in 2016, “What the hell do you have to lose?”
9:31 P.M.: Trump criticizes the media’s midterm election coverage, saying “We got very little credit from the fake news media. Very little credit. They talked about the House. But the people I campaigned for in the House – which was very few, I can’t, look I’m one person.”
9:33 P.M.: Trump falsely says “We had three seats even four seats that were so close. We almost won. In areas that a lot of people say don’t bother contesting. We almost won in four states that a lot of people say don’t bother, you can’t win.”
9:34 P.M.: Trump alleges “a little tricky business going on” in the midterms, likely referring to Broward County, Fla., Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes, and allegations of misconduct concerning election handling against her.
9:35 P.M.: The President warns Mississippians not to let Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Chuck Schumer win this Senate race. For the record, Maxine Waters, a Black woman, is not only not in the Senate but not a party leader.
9:37 P.M.: President Trump calls Sen. Lindsey Graham’s pro-Kavanaugh speech “beautiful,” adding, “He hit a chord that you hit very rarely in the world of politics or anything else.”
9:43 P.M.: Trump says the very future of America’s judicial system is at stake in this Senate election. He says he wants judges who will follow “the plain and very beautiful meaning of our Constitution.”
9:47 P.M.: Trump boasts that the military has put up wire at the border. He says, “They’ve made them very unfriendly-looking, wouldn’t you say. Climbing those walls would be a very painful experience right now.”
9:49 P.M.: Trump boasts of how many bad people ICE has arrested during his tenure. Sounding a bit Oprah-like, he says, pointing at people in the crowd, “And I don’t want that job. And you don’t want it. And you don’t want it. And you don’t want it. And YOU might take it, right there.”
9:51 P.M.: Trump cites stats on illegal immigrant crimes, rejecting FBI data on low immigrant criminality. “You know you hear these stories about oh, they don’t commit crimes, we commit crimes, they don’t commit crimes. Always it’s us. No no, it doesn’t work that way. It’s fake news.”
9:53 P.M.: Trump says the U.S. has an annual trade deficit of $800 billion. It was $566 billion including services trade last year.
9:54 P.M.: Trump boasts of the Mexico-Canada trade deal, then threatens Mexico and Canada with tariffs again: “But of course they have to treat us fairly. Otherwise we’ll just tax their product when it comes in. You know that. You know that. You know that. You know what I’m talking about.”
9:55 P.M.: Trump says that there used to be an “economic surrender,” but it ended when he took office, but it happened “through stupidity.”
9:58 P.M.: Trump calls NAFTA a disaster and his USMCA, incredible. He repeats the name USMCA, saying “like the song, YMCA, right.”
10:01 P.M.: Trump says “Nobody has ever done as much in the first two years of an administration as this one,” adding “No one.”
10:02 P.M.: Trump says “At my direction the Pentagon is working to create the 6th branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, The Space Force.
10:02 P.M.: Trump says he gave the troops the largest pay hike in more than 10 years. It’s the largest in nine years.
10:08 P.M.: Trump says win win win win and now the crowd is chanting win win win win.
10:09 P.M.: The President concludes his the rally with his signature phrase, ‘Make America Great Again.’
