Republican Montana Sen. Steve Daines, running for reelection, holds a 6-point lead against Democratic Gov. Steve Bullock, according to a poll released today by Emerson College. This race will help decide the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.
The race has taken a turn in Daines favor, as two weeks ago, a Public Policy Polling survey of the race found Bullock leading Daines by 2 points.
Daines received 50 percent support in the poll, while 44 percent said they would vote for Bullock, while five percent of those contacted said they were still undecided in the race.
Montana is traditionally a Republican stronghold and Democrats are trying to see if the Republican support has softened. It is a very important race as the Democrats, who to have a chance at retaking control of the Senate need to flip three seats in November and win the White House (or four seats if Trump is reelected).
The Emerson poll, is showing Trump leading former Vice President Joe Biden by a margin of 11 points in Montana, 53 percent to 42 percent. Trump was a big winner over Hillary in 2016, as Trump won the state 20.5 percent of the vote.
