MNUNCHIN SAYS ECONOMY SHOULD BE OPEN BY LATE SUMMER

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Wednesday that most, if not all, of the U.S. economy should be reopened by later in the summer after a devastating shutdown to try to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

He was questioned about some larger companies receiving PPP (Payroll Protection Program) dollars that probably shouldn’t have and he said that companies must do a certification to apply for any loans.

He also said the larger companies that are applying should comply with this certification, and if they discover they have received monies not within the certification guidelines they can return the loans without penalties from the Treasury or SBA.

“We’re looking forward to by the time we get later in the summer having most of the economy if not all of the economy open,” Mnuchin told Fox Business Network.
