Israel signed a pact with Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, vowing to normalize relations between the three nations. This was the first time in more than 25 years that Arab nations have acknowledged, let alone signed an agreement with Israel, and President Trump deserves much of the credit.
At last, there is a legitimate chance that peace might finally win out in a region racked by conflict and war. If only Democrats and the mainstream media were willing to admit it.
Preident Trump was able to help broker this deal because he broke with traditional diplomatic thinking and pursued a transactional route. That is why many in the media have tried to either downplay or ignore this deal’s significance.
All three nations were guaranteed economic opportunity and united opposition to Iran. This last point was particularly important, and Trump’s record on Iran, withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal, taking out terrorist-in-chief Qassem Soleimani, allowed each of these Middle Eastern countries to take him seriously.
But to admit as much would force Democrats and their allies in the media to admit that perhaps Trump did something right. There have been a few prominent Democratic leaders who have welcomed the deal. But their praise has not been without conditions.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, for example, questioned the Trump administration’s motives and suggested that the president plans to use this deal to sell American weaponry to the UAE, but only after dismissing the deal as a “distraction.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer similarly said that his support for the deal is contingent upon him seeing its “details,” though he did add that news of the agreement is “welcome.”
Pelosi and Schumer could learn a thing or two from some of their lower-ranking colleagues, who not only praised the deal, but attended the White House’s event commemorating it.
There are some things that are bigger than politics. This is one of them. And it’s a shame that Pelosi and members of the media can’t see past their opposition to Trump long enough to recognize peace when they see it.
